Originally from Jamshedpur, Kanak moved to Mumbai to pursue her BBA from NMIMS (Batch of 2024), where she experienced firsthand the challenges students face when relocating to a new city — from understanding admission processes to finding reliable housing and building a new community.
Inspired by these experiences, Kanak started The Commun in 2020 with the vision of creating a space where students could access trusted guidance, practical resources, and a supportive peer network. Over the past four years, the platform has helped hundreds of students with admission guidance, counselling, and assistance in finding flats, hostels, and PG accommodations near major college hubs in Mumbai.
